EE is one of the big four networks in the UK and offer a number of mobile broadband devices, which support either 5G or 4G networks.
Coverage is extremely widespread on EE and you can expect decent speeds, which in many cases can outperform fibre-broadband, particularly in rural areas.
Mobile broadband is a product very much worth considering in a number of circumstances:
Many areas still have poor fixed-line broadband and could achieve better performance from mobile broadband. If that is you then you should consider mobile broadband as a viable superior alternative.
Mobile broadband is great if you move around a lot as you have something ready to connect whereever you go. All you need is mobile coverage and internet is always at your side.
Most fixed broadband requires a long contract, which isn't ideal for those in temporary accomidation or looking for a short-term solution. Mobile broadband is a viable option as you can choose 1-month contracts, giving you the flexibility you require.
The majority of fixed broadband deals require you to have a landline and to wait an engineer visit. Mobile broadband devices don't have such ties and are simple plug-and-play devices.

Mobile Wi-Fi dongles are battery-powered devices that are extremely portable and enable you to connect multiple devices at once over WiFi.
Currently, EE offer the EE 5G WiFi, which supports 5G speeds up to 2.33Gbps and deliver excellent Wi-Fi performance thank to Wi-Fi 6 support. You can connect up to 64 devices at the same time and enjoy up to 8 hours usage from a single charge.
EE's 4G WiFi is a more affordable alternative that supports 4G speeds up to 300Mbps and supports Wi-Fi 5, which in reality is more than adequate for the average user. Up to 20 devices can be connected at once and you can again expect up to 8 hours battery life.

EE also offer the EE Smart 5G Hub, which is a cutting-edge 5G broadband router that supports 5G speeds up to 4Gbps. The mains-powered device also supports Wi-Fi 7, has a 2.5Gbps ethernet port and can connect to over 100 devices at the same time.
EE's Smart 4G Hub is a more affordable alternative that supports 4G speeds up to 300Mbps. It's also mains-powered, has a 1Gbps ethernet port and can connect to up to 60 devices simulatenously.
EE themselves claim that average 5G speeds on mobile broadband are 146Mbps, while 4G speeds are reported to average at 40Mbps.
However, in OFCOM's mobile network expierence report from January 2026 average 5G downloads speeds on EE were 92.2Mbps. That is below EE's own reported figure and puts them in 3rd place when compared to the other networks with both Three and Vodafone significantly above them when it comes to average 5G download speeds. In the same report EE's average 5G upload speeds were 16Mbps, which puts them in 2nd place behind Three.
For the average user, EE's mobile broadband speeds will be more than adequate, but those looking for the best performance and low latency should consider choosing a 5G device to ensure maximum performance.
