O2 is one of the big four mobile networks in the UK and has widespread 5G coverage and offers the widest range of mobile broadband devices of any UK network.
Mobile broadband is a product very much worth considering in a number of circumstances:
Many areas still have poor fixed-line broadband and could achieve better performance from mobile broadband. If that is you then you should consider mobile broadband as a viable superior alternative.
Mobile broadband is great if you move around a lot as you have something ready to connect whereever you go. All you need is mobile coverage and internet is always at your side.
Most fixed broadband requires a long contract, which isn't ideal for those in temporary accomidation or looking for a short-term solution. Mobile broadband is a viable option as you can choose 1-month contracts, giving you the flexibility you require.
The majority of fixed broadband deals require you to have a landline and to wait an engineer visit. Mobile broadband devices don't have such ties and are simple plug-and-play devices.

A total of 5 mobile Wi-Fi dongles are currently available on O2 with the majority being made by Netgear.
The best available mobile Wi-Fi dongle on O2 is the Netgear Nighthawk M7 Pro, which is a cutting-edge 5G mobile WiFi dongle. It supports download speeds of up to 6Gbps and has support for Wi-Fi 7, which is the very latest Wi-Fi specification. It also has a huge 5040mAh battery which delivers up to 13 hours usage on a single charge. Other standout features include a 2.5Gbps ethernet port and support for two TS9 RF external antennas to boost performance.
Also, available are the Netgear Nighthawk M7, M6 and the M3. All of which supports 5G download speeds and are battery-powered mobile Wi-Fi dongles. The higher the number, the higher up in the range the product is, meaning that the most affordable is the Nighthawk M3, but that still has an excellent specification. While, the most affordable mobile Wi-Fi dongle on O2 overall is the TCL Linkzone MW63 as it only supports 4G with speeds up to 300Mbps.

O2 also offer a single USB-dongle in the TCL Dongle 4G, which can be plugged straight into a laptop, MAC or desktop PC. However, it only supports speeds up to 150Mbps and you can only connect a single device at once.
O2 delivered average 5G speeds of 89.9Mbps as reported by OFCOM in their Mobile Network Expierence report from January 2026. Those are the lowest speeds of any of the UK's four major networks, although they were very close behind EE who had average speeds of 92.2Mbps. O2's average 5G upload speeds were also slower than its competitors at 11Mbps.
Although slower than it's rivals, these speeds are still more than enough for the average user. However, those seeking maximum performance might want to consider Three or Vodafone instead.
